Tips From Westchester Painters for Painting a Room

Is it time to change up the look of a room in your Westchester house? One of the most effective ways to reinvigorate a room is by repainting it!
Hiring professional Westchester painters will bring amazing results, while you get to sit back and let them do the hard part. Still, we know some people also enjoy DIY projects, so we’ve got a few tips to help your painting project go smoothly!

Professional Westchester Painters’ Tips for A Great Room Painting Project

1 – Buy all your paint ahead of time

Most paints from home improvement shops are mixed on-demand, particularly if you’re going for an unusual shade. This means there can be slight variations from one batch to another. Buying them all at once will help ensure every can is the exact same shade. If you’re in doubt or end up with a mixed batch, just pour them all together in a larger drum so they can mix.
As a rule of thumb, you’ll need one gallon of paint for every 400 square feet of wall space. So, buy accordingly.

2 – Always prime the walls

The #1 beginner mistake when painting a room is not priming the walls first. Primer makes a huge difference in the final look! It seals the underlayer and makes a stable paint-friendly surface that the paint will stick to well.
Remember to wash and dry the wall thoroughly before priming, otherwise, dirt and grime could become a permanent part of the wall.

3 – Paint the trim, then the walls

It’s always going to be best to first paint the trim, let it dry, then move onto the main walls. Why? Because it’s far easier to use painter’s tape to mask off the trim.
Remember that it will take about 24 hours for the paint to dry in both cases. Do not remove the painter’s tape until it’s totally dry, otherwise, runs could still happen.

4 – Use plenty of canvas drop cloths for protection

Don’t just lay down a layer of canvas around the work area, cover up your furniture and other items as well. It’s surprisingly easy for paint to go flying, such as if you accidentally flick a brush a little too hard. Anything you don’t want stained needs to be covered up.
