Interior Painting Project in Great Neck, NY | C.E.T. Painting
Project Overview
We were called in to give a cramped, upper-floor room in a Great Neck, New York home a brand new look. The space was kind of a catch-all: a bedroom, home office and storage space all rolled into one. Don’t get me wrong, the sloping ceilings and low walls gave the room a ton of character, but the existing pale green paint, the patchy walls and the cluttered layout made it feel tiny and cluttered.
The goal was to get the room to a point where it felt clean, calm and well-organized again – a place where you could actually relax or get some work done.
What We Found Before Painting

To be honest, the existing paint job was pretty rough. It was a soft green, but it had a worn finish and was pock-marked with nail holes, bare spots and other damage from things that had been nailed to the walls.
The room was also full of little details that required some TLC, such as:
- Where the ceiling and walls meet
- The narrow areas around the windows
- The baseboards and white trim
- Heating and ventilation covers
- A mini-split system up on the wall
- Electrical outlets and office gear all over the place
- Furniture crammed into the corners
And because the room was in use, we had to take extra care to protect the surfaces and move everything around carefully.
The Challenge: Turning a Small Room into a Big Deal
This project was more than just slapping on a new coat of paint. In a room with ceilings that slope, every line and edge is super visible. If you get a cut wrong, or fix a hole and leave a lumpy patch, those imperfections will jump right out at you.
And with green walls that divided the room from the white ceiling, the whole space felt a bit disjointed.
Our approach was all about getting the surfaces smooth, and making the whole room feel like one cohesive unit. We wanted to keep the character of the space, but give it a fresh new look.
Preparing for a Top-Shelf Finish
Before we could start painting, we had to clear out the furniture and electronics, move them all to the center of the room, and get to work protecting everything. That meant wrapping up the desk, the monitors, TV, bedding and all the other personal stuff to keep it safe from dust or paint.
Cleaning the walls, filling in the holes, repairing the damage and sanding down the repaired areas until they matched the rest of the wall – that was the plan. And we had to make sure the areas around the windows, ventilation covers, mini-split system, baseboards and ceiling transitions were extra careful to avoid any problems.
Our Painting Plan
This room needed a super-controlled, detail-focused painting job. We’d have to cut the walls carefully to follow the slope of the ceiling, the edges of the windows, door frames and baseboards. We’d prime any repaired areas so they got a good finish coat, and we’d make sure the paint color and sheen were consistent all around the room.
The goal was to get the whole space to a point where it looked neat and well-organized, rather than cluttered and messy. And keeping the white ceiling and trim looking sharp would help define the architectural features of the room.
Working Around an Occupied Room
Of course, one of the biggest challenges was keeping the disruption to a minimum. Because this room was a full-on work station, had a bed in it, and was cluttered with all sorts of stuff, we had to think ahead and get creative with our staging. We didn’t just clear the room out – we had to find a way to keep it organized throughout the whole process.
That’s the kind of thing that shows why interior painting is a lot more than just slapping on some paint. Protecting the homeowner’s stuff, and leaving the space looking like nothing even happened – those are part of the service.
The Transformation We Had in Mind
Once we were done, the refreshed walls would be looking smooth and even all around the room. The little imperfections and worn spots would be gone, and the whole space would feel a lot more put-together.
The new paint will also give the room a solid foundation for all its different uses. Whether its a bedroom, workspace, or a mix of both, the finished surfaces will help it feel more deliberate and less chaotic.
A Small Room With a Big Opportunity
The thing about small rooms is that they can really benefit from some top-notch interior painting. Every surface of a room impacts the way it looks, and in a room like this, the difference between a smooth, even finish and a patchy, worn one can be huge.
Getting the walls repaired, smoothing out the transitions and getting a consistent finish is the key to making a small room feel special. And with some careful planning, it can make the quirks of the space – the sloping ceilings, the low walls – feel like features, rather than problems.
This project profile is based on what the room looked like before we started. The after photos and finished results will come once we get those sorted.
