From Water Damage to a Fresh, Finished Home: Interior Painting in Scarsdale, New York

Project at a Glance

This Scarsdale residential project needed more than just a fresh coat of paint – it needed a complete transformation. We’re talking visible ceiling damage, cracked and bubbling paint, a rough garage, previous patchwork and repairs – the whole works.

C.E.T. Painting came up with a room-by-room solution that combined surface restoration with some top-notch interior painting. We fixed up the ceiling, prepped the garage walls and ceiling, and gave one room a gorgeous soft pink finish with crisp white trim.

The goal was pretty simple: fix the visible damage first, then give each area a solid finish that’s up to its job.

Where the Project Started

One room was in pretty rough shape – the ceiling had big chunks of coating separating from it, cracks, bubbles, discoloration and exposed material. Plus, there was this bold black-and-white wallpaper that we didn’t want to mess with. The challenge was to get the ceiling fixed while keeping the wallpaper intact.

The garage, on the other hand, was a whole different story. The walls were a mess – peeling and flaking paint, visible patches, rough texture and marks from old fixtures. The ceiling had its own set of problems too – seams, patched areas, cracks and uneven sections around plumbing lines and conduit.

Just slapping on some new paint over that stuff wouldn’t have done the trick – we needed to get to the root of the problem.

Three Spaces, Three Different Needs

The Ceiling from Heck

The ceiling needed a serious overhaul. We had to carefully remove loose and unstable material, then fix up the cracked, lifted and damaged areas so they wouldn’t ruin the new finish.

We worked around the wallpaper, door trim, ceiling fixtures and other finished surfaces – no easy feat. When we finished up, the repaired sections blended right in with the rest of the ceiling, so it looked like there was never a problem.

The Garage Makeover

The garage was the most complicated space of all – rough walls, failing coatings, patchy repairs and exposed pipes and conduit. We needed to get it looking good without messing up the working systems.

The new finish needed to make the garage look good, but not interfere with all that stuff. We had to be super careful around the radiator, plumbing, electrical lines, door hardware, ceiling tracks, windows and the garage-door equipment.

The Bedroom Makeover

This room was a different story altogether. We needed to give it a softer, more decorative finish. The sloped ceiling, multiple windows, white trim and natural wood flooring created a lot of architectural transitions that needed clean paint lines.

We went with a soft pink wall color to give the room some warmth and personality – and to keep the ceiling, doors, window trim, baseboards and radiator cover a crisp white.

The Nitty-Gritty Behind the Finish

For this project to succeed, we needed to get the surfaces right before we could even think about applying the final colors.

We started by removing loose and peeling material, patching up cracks and damaged areas, and smoothing over seams and holes. Then we took care of the ceiling – we prepped the repaired areas so the new finish would look great.

In the garage, we prepped the walls and ceiling to match their texture and condition. We fixed up the failing paint and previous patchwork, and worked around all the pipes, conduit, hardware, windows, doors and mechanical elements.

We even protected the bedroom’s floors, trim, windows, fixtures and furnishings throughout the painting process – and paid special attention to the angled wall sections and ceiling transitions so everything would look smooth and seamless.

The Color Plan

We didn’t just go with a single color throughout the whole property – we chose finishes based on how each space would be used.

We gave the repaired ceilings a clean white finish to brighten up the space and hide all the damage. In the garage, we went with a muted green to bring some color and uniformity to the space. The white ceiling helped the space feel cleaner and more open.

For the bedroom, we went with a soft blush-pink to introduce some warmth without overwhelming the architecture. It looks great with the light wood flooring, white trim, window coverings and black ceiling fixture.

The Big Change

The ceiling that was once a mess now looks smooth and nice – and the fresh white finish has really brightened up the space. We made sure to keep the edge of the wallpaper and door trim looking sharp.

The garage, on the other hand, went from being a mess to being a beautiful space. The peeling, patchy walls are now a uniform green, and the ceiling looks great with a fresh white finish. It really helps the space feel bigger and more open. The new coating on the garage didn’t try to sugarcoat the fact that it’s a functional space. Instead, it gave the whole area a cleaner, more put together look that still lets all the mechanical bits remain right out in the open.

The pink room now feels like a great place to relax, thanks to the calming effect of the fresh wall colour. The unusual angles of the room are nicely defined by the paint job, while the white ceiling and trim do a great job of keeping things balanced. And then there’s the natural light from the windows, which softly reflects off the walls and complements the pale wood floors so well – it’s a really inviting space.

The Finished Result

This Scarsdale project that C.E.T. Painting worked on was a real mishmash – it involved repairing and re-doing ceilings, and painting some pretty dramatic areas that had seen better days. And yet, we managed to tie everything together in a cohesive way throughout the house.

The end result included:

  • ceiling sections – fixed and sanded down to look good as new
  • smoother transitions where the old wallpaper was – no more ugly edges
  • painting over scars and damage to make them disappear
  • white ceilings that finally look the way they should – a uniform finish that’s pleasing to the eye
  • a green finish in the garage that really ties the whole space together
  • careful painting around all the pipes, conduit, radiators and equipment in the garage- no stray splatters to be seen
  • soft pink walls with crisp white trim in the residential room – perfect balance
  • cleaner lines around doors, windows, baseboards and those tricky angled ceilings – it’s all been tidied up
  • a polished look that really makes the spaces feel done and proper

But what really sets this job apart is that we didn’t just slap some paint on top of the damage. We took the time to properly fix and prepare the surfaces first, so the end result is a job that looks like it was done by professionals.

Why This Project Matters

The thing is, interior painting isn’t just about picking a colour that looks nice. You’ve also got to deal with all sorts of problems that colour alone can’t fix – peeling paint, damaged ceilings, rough textures, old patchwork and uneven surfaces. All these things affect how the final finish is going to look.

This project shows how different areas of the same house can require completely different approaches. We had to do some careful restoration work around the wallpaper on the ceiling, the garage needed a lot of prep and some durable visual fixes, and the residential room needed precision, balance and the right colour choice.

By treating each space according to what it needs, C.E.T. Painting was able to create a look that works across the whole house, without making every room look identical.

A Fresh Start for the Scarsdale Home

This house started out with some pretty big problems – damaged ceilings, worn utility surfaces, and rooms that could do with a bit of a makeover. But the end result is a cleaner, more finished residential interior that’s a joy to be in.

The patched-up white ceilings, the freshly painted green garage and the softly painted pink room all work together to create a space that feels brighter, more loved and ready for use.
